Jukebox Wizard (The Soundcloud Page)

The super-talented DJ B. Cause of San Francisco’s Groove Merchant Records and 4One Funk crew helped me put together this collection of pop song-sandwiches a few months ago, and while it was received well, the download numbers were a little disappointing. It wasn’t until a couple days ago, that I realized the large-sized .zip file may have been keeping people from downloading it. In the interest of getting it out there, we have reintroduced the release with an individual preview/download option for each song. Hopefully now it can circulate better. Thanks for checking in.

WELL DONE – bboy mix from 2005

"Medium: Rare II" not included

I pressed up these CDs to take with me to Europe in ’05. The package included the 2nd rare rap mix I did, and this bonus mix of uptempo tracks. It was made mainly to cater to breakdancers, but people seemed to enjoy it in their headphones and cars as much as on the linoleum or cardboard.

Doc Delay & DJ B. Cause introduce you to the JUKEBOX WIZARD

New York and San Francisco meet in key to bring you the best
song sandwiches both sides of the Mississippi.

“I have no idea who this guy was. He arrived around 7:45 PM, ordered a beer, took a sip, and just sat there and let the beer turn to lawn water. That was it. He just sat and stared. He had on these dumb mirrored shades and wore a Dungaree jacket. He could have been 21, 41, I have no idea. He never talked to anyone. Everybody thought he was blind, but he never stumbled or fell or used a cane. Not in front of me at least.

At some point, when nobody else was using the jukebox, he went over and layed his hands on it. No—I got that wrong. He layed one hand on it and stuck out the other arm like he’s Trent Reznor reaching out to touch the black dragon. Some song I know we got on the jukebox, like “White Rabbit,” starts playing. Except it’s not that song. It’s that song plus The Police or something else from the radio. Most people liked it OK. People bought him beers, but he never touched them. This one guy gave him a twenty and the kid did nothing but stare at him. After he did his thing, he sat down and ordered another beer, took a sip, and then left.

I haven’t seen him since. I kinda liked that one with Yes and Lionel Richie. It was angry and sad. I think the kid had, like, a GPS in his coat to pick up radio signals but Pedro patted him down and all he had  on him was a pack of those Christmas Trees you hang from your rearview mirror. Dude was somewhere else.”

Super Jamano De Dakar – Géédy Dayaan

This Senegalese monster came from the homie Neal Beckton at SOM Records after he found dead-stock in a old Washington DC distribution warehouse. I have access to hundreds of West African rarities, but take home VERY few. As en vogue as a lot of the Nigerian and Ghanaian funk and psych records are, I greatly prefer their American counterparts. Géédy Dayaan, however, is a very unique listen. Heavy synth melodies, and haunting vocals abound. I can’t think of any record I own that sounds like this, so I thought I’d share. Enjoy.
